VI.14.5 Pompeii. Casa d’Adelaide
d’Inghilterra or Casa di Marte or Casa dei cinque consolati.
Excavated 1839, 1845 and 1874. (Strada della Fortuna 40).
According to Eschebach, these were the names attributed to this house.
According to CTP –
1. The house name of Casa d’Adelaide d’Inghilterra was an error by Overbeck-Mau, which was then repeated by Eschebach. See VII.14.5.
2. It was believed that the fountain where the so-called marble statue of Mars was found belonged to this house, whereas it belonged to VI.14.43, so the name Casa di Marte would be more suitable for that house.

According to Boyce, in the south wall of the atrium to the right of the entrance is a rectangular niche.
It is adorned with a pediment on the wall above it, and a ledge supported by three brackets, projects on the level of the floor.
These are all formed by tiles embedded into the wall and presumably all originally covered with stucco.
